Plastics are becoming continually more important as raw materials in the automotive industry and other fields of engineering, in order to meet the demand for reduced weight and lower fuel consumption. However, the materials are exposed to high thermal, mechanical and chemical stress if they are used, for instance, for applications in the engine compartment or exhaust system. Traditionally, this requirement profile can only be fulfilled by using more expensive high-performance plastics, which are also more difficult to process.
