Heat shrink technology is an important area of application for radiation crosslinked polyolefins, for instance in the electrical industry and in pipeline construction. Typical ‘shrinkable’ products are tubes, foils and moulded parts. In these heat shrink products, semi-crystalline materials are given a ‘shape memory’ by the selective formation of crosslinking points. The shape memory is due to the fact that radiation-induced crosslinking occurs mainly in the amorphous areas.
