History

BGS company history

BGS Beta-Gamma-Service GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1981 by Dr. Lothar Wiesner in Wiehl near Gummersbach. His business idea: To offer new and beneficial radiation technology for the industry as a first-class, demand-oriented and customer-specific service often considered too complex and costly by many companies.

Due to continuous growth and its dynamic willingness to invest, the independent and medium-sized company has developed into Germany’s largest provider of radiation services over the years. At three logistically favourable locations – Bruchsal near Karlsruhe, Saal an der Donau and Wiehl near Cologne – BGS nowadays operates two gamma plants and eight electron accelerators in total. With the strategic expansion of the plants, services can be provided in equal measure at all locations; this improves logistics and flexibility for our customers and enables faster cycle times.

Numerous strategic partnerships with universities and leading research institutes as well as close relationships with customers are the prerequisite for innovation and continuous development – in recognition of this, our company received the TOP 100 Innovator award three times in a row (2019, 2020, 2021).

Today, BGS is owned by the families Kotz (Wiehl) and Fissler (Idar-Oberstein). Since 2008, Dr. Andreas Ostrowicki has guided the fortune of the company as managing director.
