Radiation protection
High-energy radiation optimizes the properties of a wide range of products. For physical reasons, the products themselves cannot become radioactive, since the energy of the radiation only triggers chemical reactions.
Inside the plants, radiation is completely shielded by massive concrete walls. Multi-level safety systems ensure that the plants are able to be entered without danger. In order to enter the gamma irradiation plant, the source wall is lowered into a water basin more than eight meters deep. The water column in the basin absorbs the radiation completely.
The radiation plants are constructed and maintained by BGS’s own specialists. Naturally, they fulfil all legal specifications regarding safety at work and radiation protection.
